A series of workshops and forums were conducted during 2005 as part of the development of the Perth coastal planning strategy. The attached report (and appendices) contain the outcomes of the community engagement program.

The State Government is committed to working together with the community to protect and manage the coast while still finding a balance for the growing demand coming from Western Australians wanting to recreate and/or live near the coast.

Following the establishment of the Coastal Planning and Coordination Council, one of their immediate tasks was to consult with the community on how they would like our metropolitan coast to be managed.

To ensure that we incorporate the views of a broad cross-section of the population, participants were selected from across the Perth metropolitan area using a random sampling framework. Key stakeholder groups were invited to attend a stakeholder forum.

The attached Information Sheet outlines the community engagement process conducted.

The flowchart summarises the structure, dates and how many people were involved in the community engagement program.
