The Planning and Development Act 2005, and the related Planning and Development (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Act 2005 and Metropolitan Region Improvement Tax Amendment Act 2005, received Royal Assent on 12 December 2005. The new Act(s) will come into operation upon proclamation on 9 April 2006.

The new Act consolidates and makes a number of amendments to the existing planning legislation.
