To commence the community consultation process of the Stirling City Centre Structure Plan review, a survey will be sent to 4,000 households in the Stirling area asking them to comment on transport, land uses and the development of a community hub.
Ross Povey, Director Planning and Development at the City of Stirling said this is the first of many opportunities for the community to have their say on the future of Stirling.
"This is a significant project and it is very important that the community has a strong voice in what happens with this area.
"It is vital that the community has the opportunity to actively participate in preparing a document that will guide and facilitate their future growth.
"The City and Western Australian Planning Commission are committed to opening up the issues for public comment and developing a plan that reflects the values and aspirations of the community," Mr Povey said.
The Structure Plan for the Stirling City Centre will be reviewed jointly by the City and WAPC and will provide the vision and mechanism to enable Stirling to achieve its full potential as a city centre.
In particular, it will provide guidelines on transport, residential areas, employment, community facilities and opportunities to develop a ‘heart’ or central point for the city centre.
The City Centre includes the Stirling train station, Innaloo Shopping Centre, cinema complex, Osborne Park Hospital and parts of the Osborne Park industrial area.
DPI Executive Director Urban Innovation Mike Mouritz said a reference group will be established and will include community representatives, key landowners and government stakeholders.
"We will be calling for expressions of interest for the reference group in April and May and the group will commence meeting in the second half of the year.
"Other consultation will include meetings with major landowners and key stakeholders," Mr Mouritz said.
