Liveable Neighbourhoods adopted as policy
Home > WAPC statements

22 April 2008

First introduced as a trial in 1998, the Liveable Neighbourhoods initiative is now endorsed for structure planning and subdivision for greenfield sites and for the redevelopment of large brownfield and urban infill sites.

Since it replaces most existing WAPC development control policies, all redundant policies will be progressively removed.

Liveable Neighbourhoods is a performance-based code that provides an innovative approach to planning and design.

A fundamental aim of the code is to achieve walkable neighbourhoods with reduced reliance on cars; convenient access to services and facilities; a strong sense of community; safe, connected communities and a choice of housing types.

The delivery of Liveable Neighbourhoods will support the Network City framework - the State Government's vision for regional planning for Perth and Peel.

Since the first edition was released a decade ago, the document has been reviewed and now reflects a greater emphasis on supporting sustainable urban development.

The updated document is presented in a practical loose-leaf format for easy updating and replacement of sections.

Liveable Neighbourhoods is one of a small number of WAPC publications for which a charge applies.

Liveable Neighbourhoods is available from the State Law Publisher. A view only pdf of the Liveable Neighbourhoods is available online.

Liveable Neighbourhoods is available for $40 in a custom binder with dividers including registration for all future updates or $15 for the pdf version.
